Social Worker, Activist, Speaker Shani Saxon of Turning Corners Consulting joins Christina Aldan today to talk about training to become a social worker, clinical experience, and therapy for family systems.

Your family of origin story influences your success in your business and in your personal life.

As a business owner, she has her own family systems issues, taking care of her family, taking care of herself.

  1. Take inventory of yourself - hungry, thirsty, tired? Listen to your body when you hit a wall. Acknowledge self-awareness. It’s okay to be exhausted.
  2. Do something every single day for your mind, body, spirit within a 24-hour period to rejuvenate. You may not like it at first, and it may be uncomfortable, but it is worth it. When you are stronger, you have more energy. When your mind is quiet, you will be grounded. Spiritual beliefs will serve as a source of inspiration. It’s important for us to feel a sense of purpose.
  3. The to-do list will always be there. Still, you must put yourself first.

Community Activist:
  • clinical instructor for the last 5 yrs
  • My Brother’s Keeper Summit is coming up soon! My Brother’s Keeper is a White House Initiative non-profit geared toward young men - she is a field instructor work for undergrads and graduates students - macro and policy work instead of the micro 1-on-1 work
  • My Sister’s Keeper is an upcoming project to look out for

Why do our schools need to be great places to work? I fell in love with Sandi Herrera’s message when I saw her deliver her TEDx Talk about 4 years or so ago in gorgeous Downtown Las Vegas. Always wanting to be a part of something bigger than herself, Sandi is determined to help schools create happy cultures. Culture and workplace coaching. Schools to be central hubs of positivity. It begins from the top down: with the principal and administrative team in unity. All leadership teams must be consistent, unified, and stable to create a high-performing team. In her thirties, she began aligning her own life to her values and realized how much she loved working with educators.

Dr. Stephanie Jordan joins Christina Aldan on Luckygirl: A Bite Sized Podcast for Solopreneurs.

From her website:

Dr. Stephanie Jordan is a Classical 5 Element Acupuncture practitioner trained in the style developed by JR Worsley. It is a highly effective and unique system of medicine, which treats the cause of disease. There is a natural order to the fundamental elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water that create and are responsible for life. When body, mind, and spirit are not integrated in our lives, we often feel much unhappiness, alienation and disease. It is important to discern where within each individual there is physical, mental and spiritual distress. When this is treated properly, these five elements become balanced and harmonious and we experience good health and a sense of all being right in the world.

Thinking outside the box led to a series of opportunities for Tessa Ashford. She shares her journey from Tennessee to Hawaii on today’s podcast. In the beginning there were only library websites. Vocational schools were the only schools offering technology degrees. 90% male-dominated industry. Her father was an entrepreneur. Tired of being asked “who is in charge?” she broke into the web design industry through the wedding industry.
